Meepawala Amarasuriya College in Galle is an institution that was established with eighty-six pupils and has been famous and glorious for nearly one and a half centuries. It was initiated with the objective of promoting Buddhist culture through Sudarshanaramaya as a Buddhist mixed school. Now, it consists of 120 academic staff, 38 non-academic staff, and 1875 students.
The students who step out of these premises, fulfilling both national and international capacities, are an asset to society. These knowledgeable students enter the job market both locally and abroad after qualifying in physical, biological, commerce, arts, aesthetic, and vocational streams.
Mother Amarasuriya has produced outstanding personalities in various fields such as medicine, engineering, legal services, nursing, and education, as well as well-disciplined citizens. It is very admirable that some of them are presently employed at the staff of the college.
The current Deputy Principals, Assistant Principals, academic, and non-academic staff have been the backbone of this institution. Their unity has raised the school to greater heights.
It is with immense pleasure that I mention the present Deputy Principal of Educational Development, Mrs. Kumudini Jayasinghe, who has made a great effort in successfully creating the web page. She has been assisted by the teachers-in-charge of ICT Unit and the tireless 'web team.'
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the Principals, Deputy Principals, and teachers who have served here for the past 143 years for their dedication and commitment in making this institution an everlasting one. Furthermore, I send my sincere wishes to the Secretary of the School Development Society and the Secretary of the Old Pupils Association as well as the entire body of former pupils for their commitment to their alma mater.
Finally, I wish that this web page will pave the way for the children who seek the path of education in the 21st century and beyond. I hope that all Amarasuriyans will benefit from this web page. May Mother Amarasuriya flourish forever!
